What should I ask a pool builder before signing?
10 Questions to Ask a Pool Builder Before Signing
Before signing, ask for a written, itemised quote, proof of licence and insurance, a clear schedule, a payment plan tied to stages and a written warranty. A good builder answers every question plainly and puts the answers in the contract.
The 10 questions
- Are you licensed and insured, and can I see the certificates?
- What exactly is included in the price, and what is excluded?
- Does the price include fencing, approvals, electrical, paving and landscaping?
- How will rock, poor soil or access problems be handled and priced?
- What is the start date, the expected finish date and the process if it runs late?
- How are payments structured, and are they tied to completed stages?
- How are variations priced and approved in writing?
- What warranties apply to the shell, equipment and workmanship?
- Who handles approvals, inspections and the barrier certification?
- Can I speak to recent customers or see completed pools?
Red flags
- A large upfront deposit
- A vague quote with no breakdown
- No licence or insurance details
- Pressure to sign on the spot
- A price far below every other quote
